Nasceu em 1949 em New Jersey, EUA. Foi produtor e diretor de vários documentários políticos e vídeos de música e perfomances desde 81. Entre eles: "America in Transition", Celebration of Life", "Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness"(85), "Let Us Begin"(86) e "Heavy Petting", realizado após cinco anos de pesquisa e interrompido para concluir a produção de "Atomic Café" (seleção da 9ª Mostra).

OCEANO VIEIRA DE MELO
He was born in Carneiros, Alagoas, in 1951. He is a researcher of mediums, scientific and religious matters, as well as an expert on the work of Chico Xavier and Allan Kardec. Businessman, journalist and cultural producer, he has directed short films and medium-length films. In 1999, he started up the production company Versátil Home Video, which produced and released more than 500 DVDs on humanist and biographical themes, and classic films from Brazilian and European filmmakers such as Glauber Rocha, Luchino Visconti and Roberto Rossellini. Since 2006, he has produced and directed medium-length biographical films about educators and mediums for DVD release.

OCTÁVIO BEZERRA
Born in Rio de Janeiro and worked as a technician in different national and international productions. In 1978, he made his first film as director, a short film A Lenda do Quatipuru. He continued making short films until he reached the international market with the film A Resistência da Lua, in 1985. His first feature, Memória Viva, was released in 1987. He also directed An Avenue Called Brazil (1989) and O Lado Certo da Vida Errada (1996).

Octavio Getino
Octavio Getino
Born in León, Spain, in 1935, he moved to Argentina in the early 50s and naturalized in the latin country. He was one of the founders, alongside Fernando E. Solanas and Gerardo Vallejo, of the Cine Liberación group, that proposed the use of cinema as a political tool. In 1968, Getino filmed The Hour of the Furnaces, with Solanas, clandestinely. In Spain, he interviewed the ex-president of Argentina, Juan Domingo Perón, and made the documentaries Perón: La Revolución Justicialista (1971) and Perón: Actualización Política y Doctrinaria para la Toma del Poder (1971). After the military coup in Argentina, in 1976, he received death threats and exiled himself in Peru and Mexico. Getino died in Buenos Aires, in 2012, at the age of 77.

Mendes nasceu em Santos, São Paulo em 1953. Tornou-se produtor e diretor de comerciais de TV aos 20 anos, tendo realizado mais de 2000 filmes nesta área. Em 1994, fundou a empresa Adrenalina Filmes, onde trabalha na produção de comerciais, videoclipes, programas de TV, CD-rooms e filmes de ficção - como 0 Homem da Capa Preta e A Dama do Cine Shangai. Este é seu primeiro filme como diretor.

Born in the Netherlands in 1961. She studied stage direction at the  Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, in Utrecht, and made her debut with her film documentary The Saved (1998). She also made the documentaries The Holocaust Experience (2002) and The New Rijksmuseum (2008).

OGNJEN GLAVONIC
Born in Pančevo, former Yugoslavia, now Republic of Serbia in 1985. He studied Film and Television Directing in Belgrade. He is the director and one of the founders of the Pančevo Film Festival. Directed the documental medium-length Zivan Makes a Punk Festival (2014) and the feature Depth Two (2016, 40th Mostra). The Load is his second feature film.

He was born in 1971 in Split, Croatia. His filmography includes the TV movies Full House (1997) and Ante Is Coming Home (2002), and the features Wish I Were a Shark (1999) and Sorry for Kung Fu (2004). Armin won the Best Script Award at the 2007 Festroia Film Festival (Portugal).

Vassili Silovic nasceu em Koper, Eslovênia, em 1964. Estudou em Munique e em Paris. De volta a Munique, tornou-se diretor e produtor na TV alemã. Em 1991 fez seu primeiro filme, Paul Poiret. Dois anos depois, dirigiu Cinema and Concert - Portrait of Nino Rota. Oja Kodar estudou escultura em Zagreb e Paris. Como atriz, trabalhou com Roger Vadim, Jacques Becker e outros. Oja Kodar conheceu Orson Welles durante as filmagens de O Processo (The Trial). Desde então, atuou como co-roteirista e co-produtora dos filmes do diretor, além de ter sido sua esposa. Ela estreou na direção em 1989, com Jade. Seu segundo filme, A Time to... foi realizado em 1993.

Ola Jankowska

Polish writer and director. She studied directing at Lodz Film School, in Poland, and at the National Film and Television School, in United Kingdom NFTS. She has made several narrative and documentary shorts which have screened at festivals around the world. Her first feature documentary, I Was Here (2019), co-directed with Nathalie Biancheri, premiered at CPH:DOX. Anatomy is her second feature film.

Born in Cuxhaven, Germany, in 1959. He studied anthropology and journalism at Berlin, publishing articles in various print magazines. In 1993, he co-directed the documentary I`ll Never Get Out of This World Alive. He also worked as translator and wrote the novel Ende der Nacht in 2008. 5 Women is his first feature film.

Born in Denmark in 1966, he graduated from the country’s National Film School in 1993. Itsi Bitsi is his eighth feature.

Ole Schell, an NYU film school graduate, directs films and commercials in New York City. He directs documentaries for TV in USA, Australia and New Zealand. He directed the documentary Votergate (2004) and the fiction features Dope in Motion (2005) and Ronin Boys (2005).

OLEG NOVKOVIC
Born in 1968, he graduated in directing for cinema and television at the Belgrade School of Dramatic Arts, Serbia, in 1993. The same year, he directed Why Have You Left Me, awarded prizes in several national festivals. The documentary Hi Neighbor was made in 1994. The next year, he directed seven episodes of the Brothers TV series. Normal People, in 2001, also awarded prizes in national festivals. In 2002, he completed a documentary, Invisible People, and a trilogy on Serbians and Albanians in the south of Serbia. Picnic and Goodbye Mama, I Am Leaving, together entitled Drama of Reconciliation, all in 2003, were produced by Serbian Radio and Television. Verka, Where Are You Going... Verka, was completed in 2004. Two other documentaries, Celebration and Miners` Opera, were directed in 2005. Tomorrow Morning was awarded Special Mention at the Czech Republic 2006 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

Born in 1965 in Salsk, USSR. He studied screenwriting at VGIK in Moscow. In the early 1990s he began making music videos and commercials, later turning to films and television work. He directed the feature films Triumf (2000) and The Invincible (2008).

Oleg Sentsov

Born in Simferopool, in the region of Crimea, Ukraine, in 1976. Gamer (2011), his first feature film, was screened at the 36th Mostra. In 2014, Sentsov was condemned to a 20 year sentence, accused of terrorism. He protested against the unification of Crimea and Russia. In jail, he made a hunger strike in 2018, becoming one of the most famous Russia’s political prisoners. After many protests held by film institutions around the world, Sentsov was released in September, 2019.

Born in Kiev, Ukraine, 1964. She studied at the VGIK in Moscow and directed the medium-length documentaries If I Were a Saxophone (2004), Roots (2005), There was a woman who lived in a shoe (2006) and Extraordinary Chernomyrdin (2008). Paradjanov is her feature film debut.

Born in Poland in 1983. Olga is a graduate in film production from Lodz Film School. She directed many theater plays and worked as assistant director in feature films and TV series. Among the movies directed by her, are the short movies The Mysterious Matter (2008), 3 X Love (2015) and Morning Has Broken (2017). Nina marks her debut as a feature film director.

Nasceu na Holanda, em 1960. Estagiou na Academia Holandesa de Cinema e Televisão e no American Film Institute de Los Angeles, quando trabalhou como cameraman e assistente de direção por 18 meses nos EUA. "Detenção Por Capricho do Governo" (seleção da 9ª Mostra), seu primeiro documentário, foi o melhor documentário holandês de 84. Em 86, foi novamente premiado como o melhor do ano pela série "Paixão Holandesa" (seleção da 11ª Mostra). "São Paulo, SP" teve première mundial na 14ª Mostra.

Born in Paris in 1982 in a family of Spanish emigrants. Laxe graduated in filmmaking in Barcelona and moved to London, where he filmed the short Y las Chimeneas Decidieron Escapar (2006), in collaboration with Enrique Aguilar. You All Are Captains (2010, 34th Mostra), his first feature film, won the International Critics Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and Mimosas (2016, 40th Mostra) won the Critics Week Grand Prize at the same festival.

Oliver Rauch born in 1966, in Goslar im Harz (Germany). He studied comparative literature at the University of Berlin, and cinema and drama for TV in Potsdam. His first film in 1993 was a documentary Art as Transcript of the Lasting. In 1995, he made Drewitz - Or: The Grass Faster Than It Is Heard. His first short film was Courage (1998), in Super 16, followed by The Climber (1999). Oskar Sala - The Former Future of Sound is his first feature. Ingo Rudloff born in Bochum (Germany). From 1992 to 1995, he worked on several film projects with Director Markus Lenz. From 1991 to 1997, he studied psychology. His first short film was fiction, Night Comes, Night Goes (1992), co-directed with Lenz. He then made Evacuation (1994) and Rungolt - Homage to Mechthild von Leusch (1995). Oskar Sala - The Former Future of Sound is his first feature.

Seu primeiro filme foi Seizure (74), seguido de The Hand (81). Salvador,O Martírio De Uum Povo (86), causou grande polêmica por criticar a política externa dos EUA e projetou seu nome. Platoon (86), Nascido em 4 de Julho (90) e Heaven And Earth (93) compõem a sua trilogia sobre a guerra do Vietnã. Dirigiu ainda Wall Street (87), Talk Radio (88), The Doors (91) e JFK (91). É um dos principais cineastas americanos em atividade.

Mostra also presented his features Irma Vep (1996, 24 th ), Demonlover (2002, 27 th ), To Each His Own Cinema (2007, 31 st ) and Summer Hours (2008, 38 th ). He also directed Carlos (2010), winner of the Critics’ Honorable Mention at the 34 th Mostra, Something in the Air (2012, 36 th ) and Clouds of Sils Maria (2014, 38 th ). With Personal Shopper (2016), won the award for Best Director at Cannes Film Festival.

OLIVIER DUCASTEL He studied at the IDHEC Film School and holds a diploma in Film Studies and Research from the University of Paris III. After pursuing an editing career (he was Sabine Mamou`s assistant on Jacques Demy`s Three Places for the 26th), he wrote and directed Le Goût de Plaire, a short musical. In 1998, Ducastel and Jacques Martineau carried off their attempt to make a musical about AIDS, Jeanne and the Perfect Guy. JACQUES MARTINEAU An Arts graduate, he is a lecturer at the Université de Paris X, at Nanterre. Jeanne and the Perfect Guy was his first screenplay, which he went on to co-direct with Olivier Ducastel. Their film Funny Felix, featuring Sami Bouajila, was released in France in April 2000.

Born November 29, 1951, in France. Daughter of French actress Micheline Presle and of American actor and director William Marshall. She was part of TV series in 1988 and directed and wrote the script for her first film, Pentimento, in 1989. With Venus Beauty Institut, she affirmed herself as director. With this film, she won the Caesar prize in 1999. She was part of the 18th Mostra with the film Something Fishy, 1993.

Pretend I`m Not Here is Olivier Jahan`s first film as director. Before embarking on his career as a film maker, Jahan worked as assistant-director and collaborator for several festivals. In 1994, he directed his first short film, Parlez Après le Signal Sonore. Before directing features, he made three short films, all of which were selected to be part of festivals such as Clermont-Ferrand, Cannes, and Grenoble.

After studies at the Centre National de la Cinématographie, he shot the short films Promis, Jures (1996), Jingle Bells (1997), selected for the 54th Venice International Film Festival, Claquage Après Etirements (2000), and A tes Amours (2001). He works also as a translator to dubbing and subtitles in movies. Stolen Holidays is his first feature film.

Studied Philosophy and Cinema in Brussels, Belgium, and worked as a documentary film editor before switching to screenwriting and directing. He directed the short films L`Arbre au Chien Pendu (2000), Une Fille de Joie (2002) and Darkness (2006). Rondo is his first feature film.

Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 1984. Studied at FAMU film school, in Prague. He made the feature films A Night Too Young (2012) and Family Film (2015), presented at film festivals like Berlin, San Sebastián and Tokyo, and Winter Flies (2018), which gave him the best direction award at Karlovy Vary.

Born in Bahia, Brazil, in 1936. A bunch of his films had problems with censorship, as the feature film O Grito da Terra (1964) e Manhã Cinzenta. He directed several short films like Sob o ditame do rude Almajesto: sinais de chuva (1976) e A Última Feira Livre (1976). He directed the feature films O Forte (1974) e Ciganos do Nordeste (1976). He died in 1978.

OMAR AMIRALAY
A Syrian filmmaker and activist, he was born in Damascus in 1944. He majored in theater from the Théâtre des Nations in Paris, having later studied film at the Hautes Etudes Cinematographiques (IDHEC). From 1981 on, he directed documentary films for French television channels. Among others, his films include Film Essay on the Euphrates Dam (1970), About a Revolution (1978), The Lady of Schibam (1988), To the Attention of Madame Prime Ministre Benazir Bhutto (1990), There are still a lot of things to talk about (1997) and The Man with the Golden Soles (1999), a portrait about the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri, killed in 2005. He passed away in 2011.

Born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1988. He studied film directing at the High Institute of Cinema in Cairo and worked as an assistant director on Egyptian feature films. He made short movies like Breathe Out (2011) and The Aftermath of the Inauguration of the Public Toilet at Kilometre 375 (2014), presented at Cannes Film Festival. Feathers is his first feature film.

Graduated from Yale University in 1994. She was outstanding at the start of her career with a documentary Voices From Inside Time, that earned him the Yale Film Prize. Soon after, she won the Bettina Russel Grand Jury Prize, in Canada, for the film The Nature of the Beast. Passionately fond of music, she has directed several clips and documentaries on the subject.

He directed the short films Each Dream is a Shattered Mirror (2001), Exile (2004), Mothers and Children (2004) and the feature documentary On the Way to School (2009). Voice of My Father is his second feature film.

Sivan nasceu em São Francisco, EUA, em 1963. Fulman, em Varsóvia, em 1962. Os dois vivem em Israel desde um ano de idade. Sivan estudou cinema em Tel Aviv, realizando documentários, especialmente para a televisão. Fulman também assinou documentários para a tevê, co-dirigiu uma série infantil e dividiu com Sivan a direção do documentário Comfortably Numb (1991). Este é seu primeiro longa de ficção.

Born in Afrânio Peixoto, Bahia, in 1940. He began at cinema as assistant of the director Roberto Pires in Tocaia no Asfalto (1962). His first feature was A Construção da Morte (1969). He directed also Iracema, Uma Transa Amazônica (1974), Gitirana (1976) e Diamante Bruto (1977). He wrote screenplays for Hector Babenco (O Rei Da Noite, 1975), Geraldo Sarno (Coronel Delmiro Gouveia, 1977) and Ruy Guerra (Ópera Do Malandro, 1985). In 1988, co-directed by Santiago Alvarez, he made the documentary BrasCuba. In 2003 he assumed the post of Audiovisual Secretary of Culture Ministry, and in 2007, he became director of Empresa Brasil de Comunicação, a position he left in June 2008.

Nasceu em 1952 em Amsterdã. Formou-se pela Dutch Film Academy em 75. Seu longa de estréia "The Taste of Water"(82) ganhou o Leão de Ouro em Veneza e foi apontado como o melhor filme holandês do ano. "Pervola - Trilha na Neve", o longa seguinte, foi o melhor holandês de 85 e destaque na seleção da 10ª Mostra. Seunke é ator que parodia Buster Keaton em seu novo filme "Oh Boy!".

Born in Wisconsin, USA, in 1915. With an acclaimed career in radio, theater and film, he was already a prominent figure in his early 20s, directing acclaimed Shakespeare stage plays and helming the radio play series The Mercury Theatre. His first feature film as a director was the acclaimed Citizen Kane (1941), considered by many critics the best film of all time. His other films include The Magnificent Ambersons (1942), The Lady from Shanghai (1947), Macbeth (1948), Touch of Evil (1958, Special Presentation at the 25th Mostra) and The Trial (1962). He also starred in films including Robert Stevenson’s Jane Eyre (1943) and Carol Reed’s The Third Man (1949). He died in 1985.

Both were born in Peru in 1975. Sánchez and Julca are graduated from the Escola Nacional Superior de Arte Dramática of Peru and have a degree in artistic education from the Universidad Nacional Mayor of San Marcos. They have done several works as screenwriters, actors and stage directors. Indigenous` Slayer marks the duo’s debut in the direction of feature films.

The son of writer parents, Oskar Roehler, age 41, was brought up between London, Rome, and Nurenberg. He has lived in Berlin since the early eighties. Before he became a script writer, he devoted himself to literature and journalism. He wrote the scripts for features and documentaries, until he started out on his own solo job: Gentleman, produced, directed, edited, and written by him. Since then, he directed and wrote the script for Silvester Countdown, Gierig, and Latin Lover.

Nascido em 1961 no Cairo, Egito, graduou-se em cinema pelo High Cinema Institute em 1984. Trabalhou como assistente de vários diretores egípcios, como Hussein Kamal, Ashraf Fahmy e Niazi Mostafa.Em 1985, criou sua própria companhia e produziu The Dwarfs Are Coming, dirigido por Sherif Arafa. Entre 1989 e 1990 voltou a trabalhar como assistente nos filmes Violets Are Blue, de Radwan El Kashef, e Love in the Refrigerator, de Said Hammed. Em 1995, iniciou as filmagens de O Rei do Asfalto, seu primeiro longa-metragem.

Nasceu em Tblisi, capital da Geórgia, em 1934. Dirigiu seu primeiro curta em 1958, Akvarel, e formou-se em direção em 1961. Nessa época o seu média-metragem Aprel foi proibido pela censura, o que o obrigou a trabalhar como marinheiro e operário de fundição. Mesmo assim conseguiu realizar em 1966 seu primeiro longa, A Queda das Folhas, Prêmio da Crítica no Festival de Cannes/68. Ganhou outro Prêmio da Crítica, desta vez em Berlim, por Pastoral (1967), mas continuou a ter problemas com a censura em seu país. No começo dos anos 80, exilou-se na França, onde realizou os ótimos Os Favoritos da Lua (seleção da 9ª Mostra), E a Luz se Fez (seleção da 14ª Mostra) e Bandoleiros (seleção da 20ª Mostra).

Cói Belluzzo Born in São Paulo, in 1976. He majored in communication by the Higher School of Advertising and Marketing. He was assistant director and editor for the 02 producers. Cosmópolis is his first film. Camilo Tavares Born in Mexico City. He majored in cinema from the University of São Paulo School of Communication and Arts, in 1995, and later specialized in Mexico City. His films include: Nó na Garganta; Cara-Feia (1994), Un Poquito de Água (1995), Educação Escolar Indígena (2003), Quem Sabe Faz a Hora (2004), and Estradas das Vidas (2005).

Young filmmakers with different backgrounds, Gaggini (director of the Cine Favela festival), Noro (director of the short Ao Meu Pai com Carinho, 2012) and Pacheco (cinematographer of the short Quando a Noite Acaba em Silêncio, 2012), have combined their experience to direct the film Satyrianas, 78 hours in 78 minutes. This is their first feature‐film.

Othmar Schmiderer Born in Salzburg, in Austria, in 1954. He has been a director of independent cinema since 1988, when he released a documentary Josef Hauser-Klang und Raum. His best-known films include Collision (1993), Klangsaule (1995), and Under the Spell (1995). André Heller born in Vienna in 1947, he is a well-known multimedia artist having concomitantly developed a career as actor, poet, and composer. Blind Spot, Hitler’s Secretary is his first film as director.

Nasceu em Praga em 1943. Antes do cinema trabalhou em Pesquisa Nuclear. Estudou Cinema na Amsterdam Film Academy, graduando-se com destaque em 79 pela direção do seu filme de formatura. Estagiou na TV holandesa onde rodou vários documentários de cultura e humor. Ajudou a adaptar o roteiro e cuidou da produção de "Abel" (seleção da 11ª Mostra), melhor filme da Holanda em 86. "Asas da Fama" é seu longa de estréia.

Born in Wiznitz, Áustria-Hungria, now Vyzhnytsia, Ukraine, in 1905. As a young man, he thought about following his father’s career as a prosecutor before falling in love with theatre and becoming a director. He directed his first feature film, The Great Love, in 1931. In 1936, he moved to the USA to work on Broadway. After Laura (1944), his eighth movie and a great success, he began to devote more time to making movies. He is also the director of works such as The Man with the Golden Arm (1955), Anatomy of a Murder (1959) and Exodus (1960). Died in New York in 1986 at the age of 80.

After returning to his home country, Sembène directed the documental short L`Empire Sonhrai (1963), followed by Niaye (1964). His first feature was Black Girl (1966). He also directed The Camp of Thiaroye (1988, 13rd Mostra) —made in partnership with Thierno Faty Sow and awarded at the Venice Film Festival— and Moolaadé (2004, 29th Mostra), winner of the Un Certain Regard section in Cannes. Died in Dakar in 2007 at the age of 84.

Ousmane Sembene nasceu em 1923, no Senegal. É considerado o verdadeiro fundador do cinema africano e o melhor do continente. Estudou em Moscou e depois se lançou escritor em língua francesa com "Le Docker Noir", sobre suas experiências sindicais em Marselha. Dirigiu seu primeiro longa em 63 e, desde então , promove uma das mais vigorosas reflexões sobre a realidade africana no século XX. Thierno Faty Sow nasceu em 1941, no Senegal. Estudou Cinema na França e filma desde 1971.

She attended to workshops as a teacher in institutions of secondary and higher education schools. How Are You? is her first feature film.

Considered one of the pioneers of Brazilian movement known as “cinema marginal”, he made his directional debut with the short film Tambau - Cidade dos Milagres (1955). His first feature film was A Margem (1967). He also directed works such as Manelão, o Caçador de Orelhas (1981, 5th Mostra), the segment O Acordo of the film Trilogia do Terror (1968) and O Vigilante (1992), his last feature. Died in 2007 in São Paulo at the age of 88.
