Mr. Hekmati is an educated and humble teacher of a school located in a poor neighborhood in Tehran, in pre-revolutionary Iran. He finds himself embroiled in a scandal when he falls in love with a hardworking underprivileged young woman, who nurses her very old mother and raises her young brother.

Restored in 2011 by The World Cinema Foundation at Cineteca di Bologna/L’Immagine Ritrovata in collaboration with Bahram Beyzaie. Restoration funding provided by Doha Film Institute.

BAHRAM BEYZAIE

Born in Tehran, Iran, in 1938. Director, producer, screenwriter and editor, he studied Iranian theater and literature when he was young and graduated in literature from the University of Tehran. For years, he researched and wrote about the art of his country. Started as a director with the short film Uncle Mustache (1969). His films also include Bashu, the Little Stranger (1989, 14th Mostra) and Travellers (1992, 17th Mostra).
