A look at Armstrong’s legacy as a founding father of jazz, one of the first internationally known and beloved stars, and a cultural ambassador of the United States. Armstrong’s own life spans the shift from the Civil War to the Civil Rights movement, when he became a lightning rod figure in a turbulent era.

Sacha Jenkins

Born in Philadelphia, USA, in 1971. He is a television producer, filmmaker, writer, musician, artist and curator. His films include the documentaries Fresh Dressed (2015), Word is Bond (2018), Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men (2019), Bitchin’: The Sound and Fury of Rick James (2021), and the television mini-series Everything’s Gonna Be All White (2022).
