Born in São Paulo and graduated in cinema at FAAP. Director and screenwriter, his first feature film, The Famous and the Dead (2009, 33rd Mostra), was presented at international film festivals such as Berlin and Locarno. His short movie Something like That, directed in partnership with Mariana Bastos, won the best script prize at Cannes Film Festival in 2006 and became a feature film with the same name made by the two directors in 2017. Esmir Filho also created television shows like Tudo o que É Sólido Pode Derreter (2009) and Kissing Games (2020).
