Paco R. Baños
Born in Spain in 1971. Baños studied film directing at University of Sevilla. After an extensive experience in different positions of the film crew, he shot his first feature film, Ali (2012). He has also directed part of the mini-series La Peste, for the Spanish TV. 522. A Cat, a Chinese Guy and My Father is his second feature film.

Born in Berlin, Germany, in 1974. Thalheim is a producer and director. His debut feature, Netto (2005), was awarded at the Berlin International Film Festival. Thalheim also directed Westwind (2011), Eltern (2013), Old Agent Men (2017) and TKKG (2019).

Born in Germany in 1973, and grew up between the USA, France and England. She returned to her home country to study direction at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin (DFFB). Among her films are the shorts XX to XY: Fighting to Be Jake (2002) and Sundays (2003), as well as the feature films Molly’s Way (2005), The Stranger in Me (2008), Kill Me (2012, 36th Mostra) and 3 Days in Quiberon (2018, 42nd Mostra), presented and awarded at film festivals like Cannes, Berlin and Mar del Plata.

Abel Ferrara

Born in New York in 1951. He had been passionate about cinema since high school, when he made super-8 movies in partnership with writers Nicholas St. John and John McIntyre. His first feature films, Driller Killer (1979) and Ms. 45 (1981), transformed him into a cult figure. He directed, among others, King of New York (1990), The Addiction (1995), The Blackout (1997), New Rose Hotel (1998) and Pasolini (2014). The features Bad Lieutenant (1992), Mary (2005), Go Go Tales (2007) and The Projectionist (2019) were exhibited at the Mostra. In 2011, he received the Leopard of Honor at the Locarno Film Festival.

Adrian Shergold
Born in London, England. He trained as an actor at the Guildhall School of Drama. Started directing in the theatre, first at the Croydon Warehouse and then at Theatre Royal Stratford East. Shergold started directing film and television as a freelance director and since then made innumerous works for TV. He made the feature films The Last Hangman (2005) and Funny Cow (2017).

Born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1948. Started her career working with Krzysztof Zanussi and Andrzej Wajda. She also collaborated with the filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski in the Three Colors Trilogy script. Agnieszka made her debut as a director in 1979 with the movie Provincial Actors. Since then, she made films such as Angry Harvest (1985), Europa Europa (1990), nominated for the Oscar of best adapted screenplay, The Third Miracle (1999), Julie Walking Home (2002, 27th Mostra), In Darkness, nominated for the Oscar of best foreign language, Spoor (2017), winner of the Alfred Bauer Prize at the Berlin Film Festival, and Mr. Jones (2019, 43rd Mostra).

Poncet, além de diretor, roteirista e produtor, é compositor de trilhas sonoras. Dirigiram juntos o documentário Creature Designers - The Frankenstein Complex (2015).

Born in Tehran, Iran, in 1981. Jaberansari  moved to Vancouver, Canada, when he was a teenager. In 2008, after spending a year attending Abbas Kiarostami`s filmmaking workshop back in the Iranian capital, he started to study at the London Film School. He directed the feature film Falling Leaves (2013).

Born in Mairi, Bahia, Brazil, in 1979. He is a screenwriter, producer and director, who has directed shorts such as The Factory (2011), Quadrangle (2013) and Tarântula (2015). He made his debut in feature film with the documentary C(us)todians (2013). Muritiba also directed features like To My Beloved (2015), screened at the 39th Mostra, Rust (2018) and Irmãos Freitas (2019, 43rd Mostra), co-directed with Sérgio Machado. His works have been presented at festivals such as Sundance, Venice, San Sebastián, and at the Cannes Film Festival`s Critics Week. For TV and streaming platforms, he directed episodes of series such as O Hipnotizador, Carcereiros, Irmãos Freitas, Irmandade and O Caso Evandro.

Born in Haifa, Israel, in 1950. His works are presented at Mostra since the 20 th edition, in 1996, with The Arena of Murder. In 2004, at the 28 th Mostra, he was honored with an exhibition of his photos, the publishing of a book and a complete retrospective of his films, including Kadosh (1999) and Kedma (2002, awarded with the Critics Prize at the 26 th Mostra). He directed a short film in the collective project Welcome to São Paulo (2004), produced by Mostra. He has also directed Free Zone (2005), Disengagement (2007) and Ana Arabia (2013). Gitai won the Humanity Award at the 31 st Mostra, in 2007. The director also presented at the 38 th Mostra with the films Tsili (2014) and Words with Gods (2014). He exhibited at the 41 st Mostra the feature film West of the Jordan River (2017).

Son of filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky, Andrey was born in Moscow in 1970. Today, he lives between Florence, Paris and Moscow and works to preserve and promote his father’s work. In 1996, he had his first experience as a director with the TV documentary Andrei Tarkovsky. The Reminiscence. He also directed the short film Bastignano (2006). Besides cinema, he also organizes photo exhibitions, concerts and publication of books.

Theater, cinema and television actress, she participated in plays such as Hell and Vênus em Visom, both directed by Hector Babenco. She also worked in the short Produto Descartável (2003), for which she was awarded best actress at Gramado Festival, and in the features Se Puder… Dirija (2013), Never Old to Meow (2014) and My Hindu Friend (2015, 39th Mostra). Bárbara directed the shorts Making of My Hindu Friend (2015, 39th Mostra) and Talk to Him (2018, 42nd Mostra). Her first feature film as a director, Babenco - Tell Me When I Die (2019, 43rd Mostra), won the award for best documentary at Venice International Film Festival.

Peter was born in Jena, Germany, in 1985. He studied at the Filmakademie Ludwigsburg, where he realized several documentaries. He made the features A Promise (2012) and Beyond the Snowstorm (2016).

Born in São Paulo in 1955. He studied architecture, but soon joined his friends in creating Olhar Eletrônica, an independent company that produced content for television. In the 1990s, with other partners, he founded O2 and began to produce for cinema. Among his feature films are Maids (2001), City of God (2002), which received multiple awards and earned Meirelles an Oscar nomination for best director, The Constant Gardener (2005), Blindness (2008) and 360 (2011). In his extensive career as producer for film and television, he presents in this 43rd Mostra the film The Great Green Wall.

He is the author of various books, such as A Vítima Tem Sempre Razão? - Lutas Identitárias e o Novo Espaço Público Brasileiro. Mourão was born in Rio de Janeiro, 1967, and is a plastic artist. His work covers drawings, engravings, photography, paintings and sculptures, besides videos projected in art exhibitions. He is also curator and producer of art shows.

Since then, he has worked as a presenter, critic, writer and as a renowned producer of films such as Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (2010, 34th Mostra), Golden Palm in Cannes, and Manoel De Oliveira’s The Strange Case of Angelica (2010, Opening Film of the 34th Mostra). He is known for the features O Jardim das Espumas (1970), A$suntina das Amérikas (1975), Crônica de um Industrial (1978) and O Santo e a Vedete (1982, 6th Mostra), his last feature before a hiatus of more than 30 years, that was only over with the release of Dois Ca$amentos (2014). He also directed Paraguay War (2016), exhibited at the 40th Mostra. Rosemberg Filho died in 2019 at the age of 76. Jester is his last feature.

In 2000, he co-produced the documentary The Charcoal People (23rd Mostra) and soon after joined José Padilha to produce Bus 174 (2002), best documentary at the 26th Mostra. Estamira, winner of the Prize from the Jury for best documentary at the 28th Mostra, is his debut as a director. At the 31st Mostra, he exhibited Estamira for All and Nobody (2007). He is also the director of Artificial Paradises (2012) and Brasil X Brasil (2015). Curumim (2016) was also exhibited at the 40th Mostra.

In 1995, at the 19th Mostra, Makhmalbaf was honored with a retrospective that presented eight films, among then The Peddler (1987), The Actor (1993) and Hello Cinema (1995). He also participated of the Mostra in other occasions, exhibiting his most important works like Gabbeh (1996), A Moment of Innocence (1996), The Silence (1998), Kandahar (2001), Scream of the Ants (2006,) and The Gardner (2012). In the 35th edition of the Mostra, the filmmaker returned to São Paulo to present his daughter Hana Makhmalbaf’s film Green Days (2009), same year he received the Leon Cakoff Prize.

Born in Breslau, Germany, in 1873. Famous expressionist filmmaker from silent movie era, he made his first short movie, Die Waffen der Jugend (the youth guns, translated from German), in 1913. For 25 years, during his career as a film director, he released around 50 movies, but it was with The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, considered the first expressionist movie, that eternalized his name. Wiene directed many other influential expressionist films, but also made movies in different styles and genres, including Crime and Punishment (1923), an adaptation of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s homonymous book. Following the rise of Nazism in Germany, Wiene, who was of Jewish descent, fled into exile and settled in Paris. There, he continued to make movies, and even tried to film a new version of Caligari with Jean Cocteau. His last film, Ultimatum, was released in 1938, the same year of his death in Paris, France.

After studying at the University of Cologne, in Germany, Ceviz worked as an executive producer and an editor for a German TV channel. In 1998, he was invited to Berlin Babelsberg, where he worked as chief of the department of international co-productions. He is currently working as a writer, director and executive producer. He directed the documentary Der mit den Fingern sieht (2010). Head Burst is his second feature film as a director.

He has directed the documentary Amazônia Niemeyer - Uma Viagem pela Belém Brasília (2007) and the documentary series Amores Expressos, both exhibited by TV Cultura. He was also one of the directors of the series Amor em 4 Atos, exhibited by TV Globo. In partnership with Elaine Cesar, he has directed the documentary Evoé: Portrait of an Anthropophage (2011), about the Brazilian actor, playwright José Celso Martinez Corrêa. Jungle is also the director of the fictional feature Tomorrow Never Again (2011, 35th Mostra). He screened the short films in virtual reality Fire in the Forest (2017) and River of Mud (2016) at the 41st Mostra.
