New Directors Competition: 101 films run for the prize

The Bandeira Paulista trophy is given by São Paulo International Film Festival to filmmakers in their first or second feature. A total of 101 movies run for the prize of the New Directors Competition on the 43rd edition.

From the features in this section of the event, a selection is made considering the votes from the audience in the first week of screenings. Only the films with the most votes are presented to the International Jury, in this edition formed by Beto Brant, Lisandro Alonso, Maria de Medeiros e Xénia Maingot.

In more than two decades, the prize revealed directors such as the Iranian Jafar Panahi (The White Baloon, 19th Mostra, 1995); the French Bruno Dumont (The Life of Jesus, 21st Mostra, 1997); the Danish Thomas Vinterberg (The Celebration, 22nd Mostra, 1998); the Mexican Alejandro González Iñárritu (Amores Perros, 24th Mostra, 2000) and the Brazilian Marcelo Gomes (Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures, 9th Mostra, 2005).

In previous editions the Jury awarded ¡Las Sandinistas!
