Ricardo, shocked with the unexpected suicide of his lover, falls down in sadness and tries to kill himself. Maria, his sister he didn’t meet for 16 years, visits him at the hospital in Lisbon and takes him back to the old village beyond the mountains where both of them were born and have lived until Ricardo left. At Maria’s house, Ricardo meets Vasco, his young nephew with Down syndrome and with whom he establishes a strong friendship. When he finally gets motivated thanks to Vasco, Ricardo faces José, his father, who never forgave him for his escape and for him being homosexual, and Luísa, the fiancée he had publicly abandoned the day before their wedding. When he discovers that Vasco’s dream is to become an actor, Ricardo convinces Maria to let him go to Lisbon to study Drama. Uncle and nephew are reborn thanks to each other. The film won the Best Actor Award, ex-aequo to Filipe Duarte and Tomás de Almeida, at the 2007 Montreal International Film Festival.
