The film tells the true story of Ip Man, the martial artist mostly known in the west for being Bruce Lee’s mentor. In southern China of the late 1930s, Ip defeats renowned grandmaster Gong Yutian. Yutian’s daughter, the beautiful Gong Er, sets to avenge her father’s name and challenges Ip to a fight. Everything changes when World War II escalates and Ma San, Gong Yutian’s best student, picks the enemy side.
