Irina and Kalle are two stranded individuals who find one another and try to defend their happiness with every means possible. Happiness deserts Irina when her country Macedonia is overrun by war: soldiers force their way into her home, murder her family, and rape her. Traumatized, she flees to Berlin and works there as a prostitute. She gets to know homeless punk Kalle on the streets. The two of them fall in love, hesitantly at first, and then start to build up a small life for themselves. One day, one of Irina`s customers collapses and dies in their apartment. Irina panics and runs away. Kalle comes home, discovers the corpse, and makes a drastic decision in order to save Irina.
