In 1935, while riding his motorcycle, T.E. Lawrence dies in an accident. In his funeral, he is remembered in different ways. From this moment on, in flashback, we discover the story of a British Army lieutenant in the North of Africa who, during World War I, unsatisfied with coloring maps, accepts a mission as observer in Saudi Arabia and ends up collaborating with the union of the Arab tribes against the Turks.

Winner of seven Oscars, including best film, director, cinematography, editing and music score.

Extended version taken from the 1988 director’s cut of the film that was supervised by David Lean, digitally restored in 4K by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

DAVID LEAN

Born in London in 1908. He began working at the Lime Grove studios in London and eventually became an editor. After working as an assistant director in Noel Coward’s In Which We Serve (1942), he began his directorial career with titles including Brief Encounter (1945), the Charles Dickens adaptations Great Expectations (1946) and Oliver Twist (1948), Madeleine (1950), and Summertime (1955). The second half of his career consisted of epic historical productions: Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) and Lawrence of Arabia (1962) – for which he won twice the Oscar for best director; Doctor Zhivago (1965), Ryan’s Daughter (1970), and A Passage to India (1984).
