After ten years, Jacques comes back to France to handle his father`s funeral and inheritance. He had left France to live in the USA after the death of his son. In the meantime, his former wife Mado built a new life with Stéphane and their 7 year old son, Paul. Upon his return, Jacques and Mado meet again. Everything goes well until Jacques secretly moves into Mado’s basement and starts getting close to Paul, attempting to recreate the relationship he had with his own son.

SANDRINE BONNAIRE
SANDRINE BONNAIRE

Born in Gannta, France, in 1967. She made her entrance into the acting world while still in her early teens, taking parts in such films as À Nos Amours (1983). Bonnaire`s portrayal of a young girl who uses sex as a substitute for love made her a star in her native country. Her next films include Agnès Varda’s Vagabond (1985); Maurice Pialat’s Sous le Soleil de Satan (1987); Patrice Leconte’s Monsieur Hire (1989, 13th Mostra), and Claude Chabrol’s La Cérémonie (1995). She began her work as a director in 2007 with the documentary Her Name is Sabine (2007), portraying her autistic sister. Maddened by His Absence is her second feature film and first work of fiction. She was previously married to William Hurt.
