During Brazilian singer Gilberto Gil’s tour through the St. John celebrations of the Northeast and the Southeast regions of the country, local people are interviewed, establishing a parallel between the history of St. John parties and their importance for the local community.

ANDRUCHA WADDINGTON

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1970. He directed several TV commercials and videoclips. Waddington debuted as a feature film director in 1999 with Twins. He is also the director of movies like Me You Them (2000), which received a special mention at the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Karlovy Vary Film Festival; Viva São João! (2002, 36th Mostra); House of Sand (2005); Maria Bethânia - Pedrinha de Aruanda (2007); Lope: the Outlaw (2010, 34th Mostra); Party Crashers (2012) and Under Pressure (2016).
