Alex was born with sexual characteristics from both sexes. To evade the doctors who insisted on correcting the genital ambiguity in the boy, the family took him to a village in Uruguay. Convinced that surgery would be a violation of his body, they went to live far away in a house on the sand dunes. One day, the family welcomes a couple of friends bringing with them their teenage son. The visitor father is a specialist in aesthetic surgery and is interested in the boy’s clinical case. Meanwhile, Alex, age 15, and the boy 16, feel attracted one to the other.

LUCIA PUENZO

She was born in 1976 in Buenos Aires, and is daughter of director Luis Puenzo (of The Official Story, shown at the 9th Mostra, here as co-producer). A PhD in Literature and Theory of Criticism, she is an author and scriptwriter for cinema and television. She directed the short film Los Invisibles (2004). XXY is her first feature and was awarded the Critics Prize at the Cannes Festival, Best Film at the Bangkok Festival, and Best Director at the Edinburgh Festival, all of them in 2007.
