Bernd Willenbrock is a car dealer in Magdeburg, East Germany. Although his company is small, he has a good reputation as a businessman in a post-communist society. He has a charming wife, a pleasing home, owns a fast car, and a house in the country - and that, to him, is the sum of material success. Yet, all of a sudden, his well-ordered, predictable life takes a turn. Although he dearly loves his wife, he feels attracted to a young student. To please her, he arranges for her father to work at a job as a night watchman. One night, the girl?s father is cruelly beaten up by attackers. Later, the same assailants break into Willenbrock?s home at night. And the illusion of a peaceful, secure fades away. Willenbrock is challenged by feelings of growing insecurity and must find a means of coping with this problem.
