To Erica Bain, the streets of New York are both her home and her way of life. She shares the sounds and the stories of her beloved city with her radio public as presenter of the program “Street Walk”. At night, she goes home, back to the love of her life, her fiancé David Kirmani. But all that Erica knows and loves is torn away from her one terrible night when the couple fall into an ambush, are attacked violently and David loses his life. While Erica’s wrecked body recovers, deeper wounds persist: the horror of losing David and, even more devastating, a stifling fear that begins to shadow her at each step. Erica makes up her mind to arm herself against fear. The gun in her hand becomes a palpable means of protection against an intangible enemy. Or so she believes. Stories about an anonymous vigilant spread over the city and Sean Mercer of the New York Department of Police is determined to capture the assassin. When he gathers all the clues, evidence points not to a man with a gun, but to a woman with rancor. Erica must decide whether her search for some form of justice or even of vengeance is really the right path, or whether she has become precisely what she tries to combat.
