You have probably seen him in the tabloids; Johnny Marco is living at the legendary Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood. He has a Ferrari to drive around in, and a constant stream of girls and pills to stay in with. Comfortably numbed, Johnny drifts along. Then, his 11-year-old daughter Cleo from his failed marriage arrives unexpectedly at the Chateau. Their encounters encourage Johnny to face up to where he is in life and brings up questions about which path in life to take.

SOFIA COPPOLA

Was born in New York, USA, in 1971. Daughter of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, she made her first appearance on the screen when she was still a baby in The Godfather (1972, 32nd Mostra). She played several walk-on parts in her father’s films and, in 1990, was given one of the main roles in The Godfather: Part III. She studied Fine Arts in California and debuted as a filmmaker with the short film Lick the Star (1998). Her first feature The Virgin Suicides (1999) was selected for the ‘Quinzaine des Réalisateurs’ at the Cannes Festival. She is also the director, screenplay writer and producer of the features Lost in Translation (2002, 27th Mostra), honored with the Academy Award of Best Original Screenplay as well as nominated for the Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Film; and Marie Antoniette (2006), for which the film’s costume designer, Milena Canonero, won an Academy Award. Somewhere won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
