BRUNO BARRETO

Bruno Barreto directed his first film Tati, a Garota, in 1972, at the age of 17, followed by A Estrela Sobe, and Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands, the greatest box-office success in Brazilian cinema of all times with over 12 million spectators. Outstanding among his films are The Story of Fausta, Four Days in Setember indicated for an Oscar for best foreign film in 1998, Bossa Nova, and Romeo and Juliet Get Married. As from 1990, he divided his career as director between Brazil and the United States where he made six features with stars in U.S. cinema such as A Show of Force, Carried Away, and View from the Top. In 2005, Bruno Barreto came back to Brazil to live, and settled in São Paulo, the setting of his last two films — Romeo and Juliet Get Married and Caixa Doi$. In 2006, he directed his first theater play Dúvida.
