Jacques is the owner of a pub in New York city that hosts a range of professional alcoholics. He is determined to turn alcohol and cigarettes into the cause his death when he meets Lucas, a young indigent that has already given up life. Determined to keep his legacy alive, Jacques makes Lucas his heir and teaches him the rules of his alcoholic club: no new members, no sympathy towards the clients and no women. Lucas learns fast, but their friendship is in risk when the beautiful and tormented April shows up at the pub searching for shelter and the boy insists to help her.
