In her charming, obsessive way, Martha produces veritable works of art, cooking in a small restaurant in Hamburg. In spite of that, her day-to-day life is monotonous. Martha is very introverted, has practically no life of her own, and devotes herself entirely to her work. All this changes when her sister dies in an accident, and Martha takes it upon herself to care for Lina, her 8-year-old niece. Mario, an extroverted Italian cook, then makes an entrance on the scene and is able to bring some happiness to both. Just when Martha and Mario are about to start a romance, Lina’ father, who has been missing for a long time, suddenly appears wanting to take her to Italy. Martha must now make a decision.
