Ten years ago, Abu Shukri took his family to live in an inhospitable valley, in the middle of nowhere, far away from his homeland. The whole family was against it, but they know there’ no way back. They have a self-sufficient life, earning their living producing charcoal. Mother and the two daughters never leave home, burning wood incessantly. Only the father and the son have any contact with the outside world; the father sells charcoal in the village, while the boy goes to school.

When Abu decides to build a pipe line to bring fresh water to the rustic house, things

start to change. The son doesn’t react, but the women are unquiet. The running water awakens the instinct of freedom in them, starting the collapse of the family structure.
