Ray Eddy’s husband has bet away the family savings and left her. Her salary is not enough to support her two children; they barely have enough to eat. In a desperate search for her husband, Ray meets Mohawk descendent Lila Littlewolf, who is also struggling to survive. Suspicious of each other, the two women nevertheless join forces in a dangerous undertaking: helping illegal immigrants get from Canada to the U.S. by crossing the frozen St. Lawrence River. Awarded Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival 2008.

COURTNEY HUNT

Born in the United States, she holds an MFA from Columbia University’s Film Division. Her thesis project was her first short, Althea Faught (1996). Her second short, Frozen River, premiered in the New York Film Festival in 2004 and was screened in many of the country’s festivals. Frozen River is her first feature length film, an adaptation of the short of the same name.
