Jacinto and Domitila are a couple of Bolivian Indians, the criminals most wanted in the country. They are under contract with "El Negro" to transport fifty kilos of cocaine from El Alto, the highest city in the world, as far as the Amazon on the Brazilian frontier. Disguised as peasant farmers, with the cocaine hidden in a false pregnant uterus in Domitila, the journey for the two starts in the snowy mountains of Bolivia and continues across the entire country, through deserts, valleys, coal mines, cities, and forests. "El Negro" is, in truth a blue-eyed fair-haired American who has escaped from the American Department of Narcotics in Bolivia. He has sent two of his best men so that the Federal Unit to Combat Drugs will capture them, as a decoy for the press and police reinforcement, while he ships the cocaine in a plane to Colombia. Cacho, a corrupt lieutenant, and apprentice Maurício, a young racist cadet, start of on the long journey full of humor and interesting moments. They accidentally kill a white llama and lay the guilt on a couple of gay tourists. Meanwhile, the relationship between Jacinto and Domitila becomes more complex, because she in fact does get pregnant and would like to stop with the traffic. Jacinto wants to collect more money so that his son will not grow up marginalized as are 60% of the Bolivian population. The paths of all of these characters are to cross. Producer Donald K. Ranvaud and the director of photography (and here co-producer), Roberto Lanza, also made the documentary Coca Lives, selected for the 30th Mostra and directed by Lanza.
