A confrontation between two very different countries: at one side, China opening to the world and flirting with globalization, an at the other, a sleepy giant, rural and isolated from modernity to whom belong the two unemployed young boys Xiao Ji and Bin Bin. At their nineteen’, they spend the days hanging out on their motorcycles, chatting and flirting in local bars, in a city in northern China not far from the Mongolian border. The highest challenge for Xiao Ji is trying to conquer the beautiful dancer Qiao Qiao, a promoting model for the Mongolian King liquor brand. And Bin Bin is about to loose his girlfriend who is moving to Beijing to study. But he is not worried about it and prefers going to karaoke houses and watching the TV animation "Monkey King". Xiao Wu, leading character in Jia Zhangke’ feature debut Pickpocket reappears now as a moneylender. The original Chinese title means "free from any embarrassment". The feature was selected for the 26th Mostra.
