Several stories are used to talk of everyday human issues. “There is nothing more photogenic than common people when extraordinary things happen to them”, justifies Lelouch. There is the wife of a dying policeman who decides to leave him for her married lover, a woman thief, a charismatic street vendor, an attendant in a jazz club pursued by her boss, a homeless character who says he is God, a twosome of street singers consisting of an Italian in his fifties and a post-adolescent, soon to be discovered by an agent to be the sensation of the moment, and a housemaid who works for an extravagant actress, living in a swanky neighborhood and divided between love for the household chauffeur and for the owner of a small chain of pizza shops. This is the second film – the first is called Les Parisiens, of 2004 – of a trilogy by Claude Lelouch named “Le Genre Humain” (Humankind), that he never concluded. Actress Mathilde Seigner plays twins Anne and Clementine.
