The film goes back to one of the classics in national cinema, Pixote, a Lei do Mais Fraco (1981), by Hector Babenco. Awarded prizes in Brazil and abroad, this film was marked by real life tragedy for the protagonist, Fernando Ramos da Silva. The youngster from the outskirts of town who so impressed the public and the critics with his performance, in real life, met with an end more tragic than that of the character he played - in a true-to-life portrayal of the fate of poverty-stricken childhood in Brazil. The film includes statements, among others, from Babenco himself, from the cast manager Fátima Toledo, actress Marília Pêra (who, with Fernando Ramos, played the controversial breast-feeding scene), from filmmaker Spike Lee, and from singers and composers Caetano Veloso and Nick Cave.
