In November 1999, a film-making team goes from Rio de Janeiro to Brasília to document the 11th National Reunion of World War II Veterans. The team returns to Rio and begins a series of interviews with veterans and old soldiers who tell their experiences at the front in Italy, a country devastated by conflict and as yet with remnants of Nazi-Fascist armies on the march. In February, 2000, the same team goes to the north of Italy to film the cities the Brazilian troops passed through in the regions of Emília-Romanha and Tuscany.

VINÍCIUS REIS

Born in São Paulo, in 1970, he studied journalism at the PUC-RJ and was president of the Associação Brasileira de Documentaristas (Rio Sector) from 1993 to 1995. He directed short films Uma Rosa É Uma Rosa (1989) and Desperdício (1993) in addition to the documentaries, A Morta (1992), Gentileza (1994), and Testemunho: Nós do Morro (1995). Since 1996, he has coordinated the cinema nucleus for the group Nós do Morro, in Vidigal. The Old Soldier’s Ballad is his first feature.
