It’s 1960. When a Hartford couple turns to psychiatry for help with their marriage, things quickly spiral out of control. Couples counseling, therapy, group therapy and 24-hour marathon sessions ensue. Their four children begin to suffer and are also put into therapy. Pills are prescribed, people are institutionalized and shock therapy administered. The most novel suggestion is that they make tape recordings for their psychologist: diaries, family fights and letters. When Allis dies, a big box of these tapes is found in the shed. Must Read After my Death is composed of these tapes. Home movies and photos together with the extraordinary audio are woven into a gripping, real-time portrait of a family stumbling blindly but resolutely into tragedy. The filmmaker Morgan Dews is the grandchild of that couple.

MORGAN DEWS

He was born in 1968 in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. He worked in commercial production in Spain with the likes of Isabel Coixet, Julio Medem, Bruno Delbonnell and Seamus McGarvey. Morgan’s band Easy, with DJ Lippo, produced several critically acclaimed records for Cosmos Records. Their videos, directed and produced by Dews, aired on Spain’s TV3. Dews also worked with fine arts: engravings with master engraver Tristan Barbarà, interactive lo-tec installations, and video installation.
