Eliza Naumann is 11 and belongs to a really weird family. When, unexpectedly, she is well on her way to being the winner in a spelling bee, the stability of her family is jeopardized. A secret side to her usually dour father, Saul, emerges, and he sees something extraordinary in his own daughter. Her compulsive mother, Miriam, sees in the father-daughter bond, the same link that she had with her husband in the past. The closer Eliza is to winning the national championship, the deeper the crisis for the Naumann family, with surprises and discoveries.

Scott McGehee Graduated in architecture by Berkeley University and in photography and painting by the Rhode Island School of Design, he began to make short films in partnership with Scott McGehee when they finished their courses. David Siegel Director, actor, script writer, and producer, he majored in English by Columbia University and in theory of films and history of Japanese film from Berkeley University. His first film in partnership with David Siegel was Suture (1993) and, in 2001, they directed The Deep End.
