The Island of Jersey, 1945. World War II is over, but Grace’s husband has not returned from the front. Alone in a lonely, somber victorian mansion, she cares for and brings up her children under the rigid principles of her Christian faith. The children, Anne and Nicholas, suffer from a strange disease: they can under no circumstances be exposed to daylight. When three new servants come to work at the house, they are obliged to observe one vital rule: all of the rooms must be kept the whole time in semi-darkness. In practice, this means that no door may be opened before the first door has been closed. The austere orders issued by the matriarch are to be put in question. All in the mansion will have to take a courageous, but disastrous step.

ALEJANDRO AMENÁBAR

Chilean director and composer resident in the U.S.. Born in 1972, in Santiago. At the age of 19, he directed his first film - a short film Himenóptero (1991), followed by Luna (1995). His first feature was Thesis (or Snuff, of 1996). The following year, he directed Penelope Cruz in Open Your Eyes. The Others is his third feature.
