An alcoholic, bisexual novelist and owner of a big imagination, leaves Amsterdam to deliver a lecture and ends up involved with attractive Christine Halslag. Soon he finds out that all three of her husbands died in accidents. Freely based on Gerard Reve’s autobiographical story.

PAUL VERHOEVEN

Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1938. He debuted in feature film direction with Business Is Business (1971), and then he directed some of the most important films in the history of Dutch cinema, as Turkish Delight (1973), Soldier of Orange (1977) and The Fourth Man (8th Mostra, 1983). In the 80`s he start to direct films in Hollywood, where he made, among others, RoboCop (1987), Total Recall (1990), Basic Instinct (1992), Showgirls (1995) and Starship Troopers (1997). Back to Netherlands, he directed Black Book (2006) and Tricked (2012).

In celebration of its 40th edition, Mostra displays two works of Paul Verhoeven, The Fourth Man, successful film exhibited at the 8th edition, held in 1983, and Elle, his most recent movie.
