Italian director Nanni Moretti brings his audience one more day-to-day, moving family drama. Protagonist Giovanni Sermonti (played by the director himself) is a psychoanalyst and a father who lives in Ancona in the north of Italy with his wife Paola and two children: Irene, the elder of the two and Andrea, the younger. Giovanni works in his consulting room next to his apartment, but one Sunday he is obliged to cancel jogging with his son to see a patient. The family then makes other plans. Paola goes shopping in the street market. Irene is off to play with her friends, and Andrea decides to go diving with friends in the ocean. He is not to return. The Son’ Room is put together with the delicacy typical of Moretti. The family trauma exists, but life must go one. The film was awarded the Golden Palm at this year’ Cannes Festival.
