In a district somewhere on the outskirts of Rome, Antonio Lombardi, a retired sailor who is 70 years old, shares a small apartment with his son, his daughter-in-law, and grandchild. Occasional pastimes include drawing his retirement pay, buying sweets and cigarettes on the quiet, and going out with his grandson. One day, they decide to spend the week-end away. Antonio takes the opportunity to hold a Pantagruelian dinner-party - with plenty of cigarettes and liqueurs - for friends Piero and Peppino. All goes off well enough, but drama is nigh. After a heated argument with his friends, Antonio is taken ill and is hospitalized. He comes back home, but feels his presence is unwanted. He decides, then, to go on a last excursion with his grandson. "I want to lend emphasis to a discussion on the seasons of life, to confront the problem that, at times, can be a drama, for people that are declared old as soon as they are 65 years old, but that are full of life, with a desperate desire to play a part where they will be useful to society", says Director Rocco Cesareo. The film marks a return to the screen, after years of absence, of Italian star Lando Buzzanca.
