In this romantic comedy on the relationship between Castella, owner of a factory who hates the life he leads, and Clara, an actress and teacher of English who is afraid of growing old, comic tension exceeds the bounds of stereotype and resolves itself in absurd reality that is at times painful. Castella, a typical self-made man, is also a difficult boss, irascible and strict. He may be a total ignoramus when it comes to the world of art and social living, but he does know exactly what he likes, and this does not include engaging young Parisians, such as Weber, his manager. Clara, the actress, is contracted by Castella to teach him English. The entrepreneur has no patience with the course and sends her away. Some weeks later, he reluctantly goes to the theater where Clara is performing in a play. Castella is fascinated to see her on the stage. He soon takes up his English lessons again, now wildly in love with the girl. He tries to gain the good graces of Clara’s actor friends, but they do not take him seriously.
