As he is returning home after serving in the Iraq War, young Mike disappears and is considered to be AWOL by the army. His father, the ex-military man Hank Deerfield, receives the phone call with the disturbing news and goes out to find his son, leaving his wife Joan waiting tensely. Emily Sanders, a police investigator from the jurisdiction in which Mike was last seen helps him with his search, reluctantly at first. As evidence begins to appear, what was a disappearance becomes a suspected murder. Emily and Hank must then face the upper echelons of the military to keep the investigation open. But, when the truth about Mike’s service in Iraq is finally discovered, Hank is forced to reevaluate his beliefs to uncover the mystery behind his son’s disappearance.
