Mutants

Paula is 13 years old and believes she is always surrounded by friendly, smiling, invisible mutants with which she intends, some day, to communicate. To her, only one person in the world has not yet been infected by the extraterrestrial virus: Jens, age 16. Since his parents were killed in a car accident, the boy has wandered about aimlessly through the suburbs of the city, distilling his anger and perplexity. By sheer coincidence, Paula and Jens find themselves together in the same car on their way to the site of the fateful accident. Discrete and tender love gradually grows between them, however, on very precarious terms. At the end of the journey, Jens realizes that inner peace is not attainable so very easily, and Paula begins to learn that, in life, there are things that are far more important and real than her studies on alien mutants.
