Women in Islamic Countries is a series of documentaries portraying women from fourteen countries in the Middle East. The documentaries reveal the women?s point of view, their part in Islam society, and their routine. Their problems and specific solutions, with subjects such as careers, education, and social life, equality for sexes, and a comparison between several Islamic cultures - all are shown on film. Since the September 11 attack in 2001, Islamic countries have taken center stage. Any movement is avidly observed - especially as to the social condition for women. There is an idea that women in Islamic countries are repressed: the typical image is that they are forced to wear a veil and a bourkha, and that they must remain behind closed doors. This opinion, however, is based more on prejudice than on objective information. The series shows that today, women play an active role in Islamic countries in several fields such as art, literature, politics, and economy. They also make a significant contribution to development and transformation of the society in which they live. In fact, there are still many traditions that prevent women from taking part in social activities on a daily basis. The documentaries show the traditional differences between societies and refute prejudice in generalization. It is an objective, real, and factual portrait of women in Islamic countries. Mostra exhibits five episodes, with 60 minutes each: Algeria, Iran, Jordan, Palestine and Pakistan.
