Delft, Holland, 1665. After her father becomes blind as a result of an explosion in a hothouse, Griet, a girl of 17, is obliged to work and support her family. She takes a job as a housemaid in the house of painter Johannes Vermeer and, by degrees, attracts his attention. Vermeer notices Griet?s intuitive perception as regards color and light and slowly leads her to his mysterious world of painting.
