American Bruce and German citizen Anke met only one month ago and are getting married tomorrow. This is their last evening as singles and they are to commemorate with a party in a bistro in Berlin. But what party can this be if the only person invited is Anke?s mother who does not agree to the marriage and that is soon sent away from the site by her own daughter? The party will be decisive. Anke is determined to find a family for herself and for her baby. Bruce is no longer certain of anything. He shudders at the thought of the responsibilities that he will shoulder. Would it be better to try and lend some meaning to his life or to carry on leading a life without commitment? Bruce hopes that the party will provide him with the answers he needs, but the company he is in does not seem to help things too much: two roving Russian musicians, a Brazilian student about to be deported, an unemployed German, a Morrocco bricklayer’s assistant, a girl from Thailand about to obtain a separataion from her German husband. Bruce awaits a signal, but the next morning is too close.
