Michel wants to transform his life. He intends to leave the country, France, and all that which he most abominates in the nature of his fellow countrymen: the oppressive manner in which immigrants are dealt with and the manifest disdain for people of darker complexion. Michel himself is to become an immigrant. In New York, he takes on the name of Mike. But how can he escape the prejudice he is already familiar with? How can he become a citizen of Manhattan? Mike will have to choose. Either he must get a “green card” or he must fall in love with a New Yorker. The second option seems the more viable. In fact, this option is soon to be closer. Her name is Zoe, but she is quick. Mike will have to hurry, or he will miss the chance of convincing her as to the merits of a good camembert.
