A comedy (or tragedy, depending on the point of view) is about to be, at a bus station in a small town in Cuba. Dozens of passengers are anxiously waiting for the bus to arrive, in the hope there will be seats for them. Hope turns to desolation when the bus does arrive, but breaks down soon after. What was to be contention over an empty seat is now a lesson in solidarity. Each of the passengers tries to contribute to getting the bus to work. Based on a book of the same name by Cuban writer Arturo Arango, Lista de Espera tells, with good humor, of the small tragedies in the day-to-day life of the population of Cuba.

JUAN CARLOS TABIO

The director is one of the great exponents of Cuban cinema today. Tabio and Director Tomás Gutiérrez Alea were responsible for inserting the Cuban cinema on the international circuits with Fresa y Chocolate, in 1993. Tabio began his career in 1982, as script writer for Alea in the film Hasta Cierto Punto. As from then, he wrote and directed all of his films: Se Permuta (1983), Dolly Back (1986), Plaff (1988), El Elefante y la Bicicleta (1992), Guantanamera (1994) and this Lista de Espera.
