Leonard Cohen: I`m Your Man

“Feelings are ageless”, in the words of Hal Willner, musical producer and artistic director for the concert in 2005, in Sidney, Australia - a tribute to Leonard Cohen, the great poet of popular song in the English language. Director Lian Lunson who says she has always been a fan of Cohen?s, makes a record of the show, also backstage. She alternates interviews with those performing such as U2, Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker (from the Pulp Band), Beth Orton, and Rufus Wainwright, with statements by Cohen himself - a treasure trove of memories to tell of the sources of his inspiration. Cohen was born in a suburb of Montreal in Canada, in 1934. He published his first anthology of poems in 1956. After several trips to Europe, he withdrew, in isolation, to the Greek island of Hydra and wrote several novels. He returned to the U.S. in 1967, and took up residence, for a while, in the legendary Chelsea Hotel, in New York. With the release of his first album, Songs of Leonard Cohen, he was immediately a success as singer and composer with 14 albums all told, all of them regarded as classics. His album Greatest Hits was voted by a specialized English magazine as the most depressive of all times. He had a long relationship with actress Rebecca De Mornay. In the late nineties, he lived in a Buddhist monastery in California and was the pupil of Zen Master Sasaki Roshi. His Zen name is Jikan, meaning "Silent One". The documentary is co-produced by Mel Gibson, a self-professed Cohen fan.
