An inquiry into the fascination Americans have for firearms. Michael Moore, director and narrator of the film, queries the origins of this belicose culture and seeks answers visiting small cities in the United States where the majority of residents have a gun in the house. Among these cities is Littleton, in Colorado, and Columbine school. It was there, that in 1999, teenagers Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris got a hold of guns belonging to their parents and killed 14 students and one teacher in the school canteen. Michael Moore also pays a visit to Charlton Heston, President of the American Rifle Association Bowling for Columbine won a special award at the 55th Cannes Film Festival in 2002.
