Bollywood’s epic and musical big production, Jodhaa Akbar tells the story of an alliance between two cultures and religions where the Muslim Emperor Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar marries the fiery young Jodhaa, daughter of Hindu King Bharmal of Amer. Set in the sixteenth century, this romance begins in the battlefield where the young Jalaluddin was crowned, through the conquests that won him the title of Akbar the Great. In his efforts to strengthen his relations with the Hindus, Akbar accepts to marry the beautiful and defiant Jodhaa without knowing that he would in turn be embarking on a new journey – the journey of true love.

ASHUTOSH GOWARIKER

An actor who took to film direction after almost a decade in front of the camera, Ashutosh has acted in Hindi films, Marathi films, television serials and commercials. His diverse exposure as an actor whetted his appetite to helm a project, taking on the directorial reign for the first time with First Love, a murder mystery in 1993. Though the film did not do very well at the box office, it helped Ashutosh find firm ground as a director. He followed this up with The Game, a thriller, in 1995, which enjoyed average success, but led Ashutosh on a journey in search of a better script. Then he made Lagaan, which was nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Film in a Foreign Language category in 2001, and Swades, success in international box offices in 2004.
