Janine is in torment and decides to run away from home and live in a convent. Even in the quiet of a religious environment, she can find no respite. The nightmares and visions that haunt her are still there. The Mother Superior suggests that she take up singing as a form of therapy. Janine composes and sings “Dominique” that becomes a success internationally on the hit parade. Success, however, does not bring her peace. She abandons the convent and starts an affair with another ex-nun, Clara, who manages a home for problematical girls who have run away from home. The relationship is marked by outbursts of jealousy on the part of Janine who unexpectedly decides to leave Clara and move to her father’s: he seems to take more of an interest in his daughter’s girl friend than in Janine herself. Between comings and goings, from her father’s house, back again to Clara and hence, to the company of a gang of junkies, Janine is moving forward, in broad strides, to tragedy.

ROGER DEUTSCH

After making several successful short films in the eighties, Deutsch decided to devote himself to script writing. Suor Sorriso, his first feature, was filmed in Italy where he has lived since 1993. He is the author of the scripts for the films Il Gioco and Statute of Limitations. The latter, under director Pavel Lounguine, is being filmed in Cuba. Roger Deutsch is at the moment making his second film, Dedicated to You.
