The story of an old film maker who is contracted by a French producer to make a film on the life of Proust. During the preparations for the project, travelling constantly between France and Italy, he again sees some of the important moments in his own life, according to the modes of involuntary memory, the great discovery of Proust. In a series of free associations (visual, tactile, and auditive), capital experiences reappear from his past: abandoning the Resistance in World War II, repeated passion for one same woman – that he does not recognize after a long separation, the journey he makes to Switzerland for an abortion, the purchase of a house with his young wife, the sale of the same house a long time later, the relationship with his son, age twenty. The film was awarded the Prize for Innovation at the Montreal Festival.
