An old gentleman is watching life pass by seated on a park bench. A drunken youth is asleep, snoring away in a railway carriage. A pretty girl is out catching butterflies in a bucolic valley. Women are sewing in a dress shop. Men are playing bowls in a pub. A bee is busy gathering honey from the flowers. A mechanical harvester is husking the wheat that is later to be made into flour in a mill. In the sequence, a cake is being baked in Grandma’s kitchen. Meanwhile, a policeman is investigating a mysterious assassination. The film consists entirely of these fragments of life woven into a plot.
