Ah Jie lost everything in the stock market due to a severe economic crisis. He spends his days in his sealed apartment, smoking joints and looking after the marijuana plants that he secretly grows in his wardrobe. In desperation, he calls a suicide helpline and gets to know Chyi, whose sweet and gentle voice causes him to fall in love with his fantasized image of her. He tries to ask her out but is repeatedly rejected. He begins projecting his fantasy of Chyi on Shin, the new girl working at the betel nut stall downstairs. Shin is always sexily dressed in order to lure male customers. He becomes closer to her and soon the two of them sink into a world of erotic and psychedelic pleasure. The film’s production design is signed by filmmaker Tsai Ming-Liang

LEE KANG SHENG

Born in 1968, in Taipei, Taiwan. He was discovered in the streets by Tsai Ming-Liang and is chosen to act in The Kid (1991), a film for TV. He acted in several films by Tsai Ming-Liang such as Goodbye Dragon Inn (2003) and a short film The Skywalk is Gone (2002), selected for the 27th Mostra. With the same director, he also acted in What Time Is It Over There? (2001, 26th Mostra), The Hole (1996), Vive L’Amour (1998, 23rd Mostra), and Rebels of the Neon God (1992). The Missing is his first feature as film director. He is, at the present time, preparing a second film, Help Me.
