Michelle is a divorcee, a teacher of aerobics in Montreal and the mother of a 14-year-old. Although she herself is now 30, she is still not as responsible as she might be and she has not managed to rid herself of her addiction to cards. She usually inveigles money out of her friends or her mother?s boyfriend to pay off her gaming debts. But the people around her have tired of bailing her out. She goes into a crisis and finds refuge with Janine, a childhood friend with a daughter the same age as her own, living in a comfortable, well-organized home, in a quiet suburb in California. The girls become friends. The mothers, in turn, confront their values in life that at first sight would seem completely diverse. Janine, however, is soon to reveal she has a secret agenda.
