One day, Zano suggests a crazy idea to his girlfriend Naïma: travel across France and Spain heading towards Algeria, and discover the land their parents had to flee decades ago. These two children of the Algerian diaspora defiantly venture into the world, carrying different kinds of music as their only belonging. Seduced by the freedom, they let Andalucia’s vibrant sensuality engulf them before they cross the Mediterranean Sea. From one fortuitous encounter to another, and moving to the beat of techno and flamenco, Zano and Naïma retrace the path of their ancestors’ exile, hoping to find themselves at the end of their journey.

TONY GATLIF

Born in Algeria in 1948. He majored in dramatic arts. His first film was La Tête en Ruines (1975). His filmography includes titles such as Rue du Départ (1985); Gaspard et Robinson (1990); Latcho Drom (1993), winner of the Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival; The Crazy Stranger (1997, 21st Mostra), which won the Silver Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival; the segment Paris by Night, from the feature Visions of Europe (2004, 28th Mostra); Exils (2004, 28th Mostra), winner of Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival, Transylvania (2006) and The Outraged (2012, 36th Mostra).
