Over the course of the last century, the US has encircled the world with a web of military bases unlike any other in history. Today, they amount to more than 700, in 40 countries. No continent is spared. They are one the most powerful forces at play in the world today, yet one of the less talked-about. They have shaped the lives of millions, yet remain a mystery to most. The documentary includes testimonials of experts, intellectuals and former insiders, such as Noam Chomsky, Gore Vidal and Chalmers Johnson, and stories of those directly affected by U.S. bases in countries like Italy and Japan.

THOMAS FAZI

Was born in 1982. He is an Anglo-Italian researcher and translator and works as a political consultant for Italian publishing houses. Standing Army is his first feature film.
ENRICO PARENTI

Was born in 1978 and studied film in Barcelona. A freelance Italian-American moviemaker, he has worked as a director of photography on several documentaries for RAI television and independent productions. Standing Army is his first feature film.
